9 "Walter J. Bauernfeind, a resident of Menasha since 1924, is general manager of the Floral Center Greenhouses. This business was started in 1924 with one small greenhouse, and has now grown to five large houses, doing a wholesale and retail floral business, and also landscaping and nursery activities. Mr. Bauernfeind is affiliated with the Menasha Kiwanis club and served on the Kiwanis safety committee for the last three years. He also belongs to the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Florists association, Society of American Florists, and the Florists Telegraph Delivery association."

-Obituary: Jesse O. Silva, 80, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. He is now in the presence of Jesus. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary: 7 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Jesse was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Dallas to Emeterio and Guadalupe Ochoa Silva. He was the owner of Jesse's Boot and Shoe Repair in Dallas. Survivors: Wife, Virginia V. Silva; sons, Jesse Silva Jr. and wife, Meg, Albert Silva and wife, Sharon, Jimmy Silva and wife, Diane, and Andrew Silva; daughters, Laura Silva Roberts and Linda Ryan; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Maria Ayala.

20 1/14/12: There is an Alice Cook in the 1881 England Census, living near London. Not sure if this was her. Saved record to Ancestry shoebox.

In the 1930 census, she is living with an older sister, Minnie B., who doesn’t show up on the England census.


Came to the U.S. in 1884 with her father, George R. Cook. He was naturalized in Tipton, IA, in 1887.

Lived in her own home in Minneapolis until she reached age 91, when she returned to Iowa and took up residence in Mt. Vernon.

Owned various cars from 1905 to 1958, including a Stanley Steamer and a one-cylinder Reo.
